BAOBAB for Women’s Human Rights Media Fellowship in SGBV Reporting 2023

Applications for the BAOBAB for Women’s Human Rights Media Fellowship in SGBV Reporting 2023 are now open. The Fellowship will enable journalists to produce stories about how critical actors, state and non-state, communities and individuals are solving social problems related to SGBV, as well as how to sustain actions for eliminating SGBV in Nigeria.

This inaugural edition is open to journalists – Reporters, Photographers, Radio/Audio journalists, Television/Video journalists, Documentary filmmakers and Freelance journalists – in 3 focal states of Bauchi, Jigawa and Kano where BAOBAB is currently implementing the ‘Protecting Women from SGBV in three States in Northern Nigeria’, project with funding support from the MacArthur Foundation.

Benefits

  • Successful pitches will receive a modest stipend to produce the stories within days from the day of commissioning.
  • The Fellows will be trained for one day to bring them up to speed on SGBV issues, intervention strategies and achievements, after which they will start working on their projects.

Eligibility

  • Open to journalists – Reporters, Photographers, Radio/Audio journalists, Television/Video journalists, Documentary filmmakers and Freelance journalists.
  • Be resident in the focal states – Bauchi, Jigawa and Kano.

Application

Application must include:

  • A pitch of three (3) paragraphs describing the project they plan to work on.
  • A short bio of not more than 200 words.
  • A letter from their supervisor endorsing the application and expressing commitment to the reports. Freelance journalists should secure consent of the medium in which they plan to publish their work.
  • Links to two samples of their previous work.
